The No. 1 film at the UK Box Office, AMERICAN HUSTLE has been nominated for 10 BAFTAs, it was announced this morning. The film received nominations in all four major acting categories for Christian Bale (Leading Actor), Amy Adams (Leading Actress), Bradley Cooper (Supporting Actor) and Jennifer Lawrence (Supporting Actress) as well as Best Original Screenplay and Best Director nominations for David O. Russell. In addition, AMERICAN HUSTLE also received nods for Costume Design, Production Design and Make-up and Hair.
In response to the news of the film’s nominations, AMERICAN HUSTLE’S co-writer and director, David O. Russell, who previously won the BAFTA for Best Adapted Screenplay, for SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, commented: “Mind blowing. Humbled and beyond grateful to be recognised by BAFTA in this way. It means everything to have our actors and our craftspeople, who put their hearts into this picture, acknowledged.”
AMERICAN HUSTLE is also in contention for seven awards at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards®: Best Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical), Director, Original Screenplay and all four major acting categories.
Set in the seductive world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock the United States, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning British partner and lover Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild unhinged FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down.
AMERICAN HUSTLE is in cinemas nationwide now, released by Entertainment Film Distributors.
